Meet the Team for Wills and Trusts at NW Legacy Law
ABOUT US
NW Legacy Law was founded over ten years ago by Thomas Hackett and one paralegal. Since then, the firm has grown to employ four attorneys and a team of talented and compassionate paralegals, client service specialists, and support staff. NW Legacy Law is based out of Vancouver’s historic Officers Row. The attorneys and the team are dedicated to helping individuals and families develop comprehensive and individualized estate plans. In addition, NW Legacy Law provides assistance to families navigating the loss of a loved one through compassionate and expert legal advice.
The team is dedicated to safeguarding your future and honoring your legacy with dignity and expertise every step of the way.
Now Serving Portland, OR
NW Legacy Law is proud to serve families throughout Portland, Oregon, and the surrounding metro area from our Portland office located at 650 NE Holladay St #1600, Portland, OR 97232, in the Lloyd District. With a dedicated presence right here in Portland, our clients can meet with us locally to discuss their estate planning, probate, and elder law needs without crossing the river — though our Vancouver office remains just as convenient for those on the Washington side.
Our attorneys are licensed to practice in Oregon and bring years of hands-on experience navigating the state’s specific estate planning, probate, and elder law statutes. We understand that Oregon has its own set of rules when it comes to wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and probate administration. Our team stays current on Oregon Revised Statutes and any legislative changes that could affect how your estate plan functions or how your loved one’s affairs are settled. That familiarity matters, because a plan that doesn’t account for state-specific requirements can create costly problems down the road.
Portland families trust NW Legacy Law because we combine deep knowledge of Oregon law with the personalized, compassionate approach we’re known for. Whether you live in Southeast Portland, the Pearl District, Lake Oswego, Beaverton, or anywhere else in the metro area, our Portland office makes it easy to get the guidance you need close to home.
If you’re searching for a Portland estate planning attorney, probate lawyer, or elder law firm that genuinely understands Oregon’s legal landscape, we’d love to talk. Schedule a consultation at our Portland office today to discuss your goals and find out how we can help you create a plan that reflects your values and protects your family’s future.
OUR ATTORNEY TEAM
At NW Legacy Law, our team is dedicated to providing you with the highest quality of legal services.
Thomas Hackett
Attorney At Law
Thomas is a legal strategist and advisor to families and business owners. Thomas founded NW Legacy Law, P.S. to provide estate planning and business planning legal services in a friendlier way. The response has been incredible:
- 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 Best in Business for Law Firms by the Vancouver Business Journal,
- 2015 Best of Clark County for Lawyers by The Columbian, and
- 2014 Start-Up Business of the Year in the Business Growth Awards.
What is Thomas’s approach? Keeping it simple. Thomas likes helping people. Fancy legal words aren’t helpful and neither are explanations that are more complicated than the question.
Thomas and his wife, Tara, are the proud parents of two energetic children. Thomas’s family enjoys skiing at Mt. Hood, watching Tara brave the cold Oregon coast to surf, and spending time in Hood River as Thomas kiteboards.

our proven legacy
planning process
1 Consultation
We begin with an initial consultation to discuss your needs and goals. During this meeting, we gather essential information to tailor our approach specifically to your situation.
2 Design
For many, our consultation concludes with either a proposal for your estate plan design or representation of you with the settlement of your loved one’s estate. For either situation, we design a detailed plan that focuses on your objectives and specific legal requirements, ensuring each element aligns with your goals.
3 Implementation
We help you execute and implement your proposed estate plan or settlement of your loved one’s estate. We review and adjust this plan as necessary to ensure your goals and specific legal requirements are implemented.

From start to finish, everyone at NW Legacy Law made the process of setting up a Trust as easy as possible. They are a very professional yet friendly and down-to-earth group to work with. We highly recommend their services!
Everything was amazing. The whole team was fantastic. Special thanks to Kayleigh for making the entire process run so smoothly and for making everything super easy to understand when setting up our trust.
Kayleigh and team did a great job for us setting up our trust. She walked through every step thoroughly and always asked if we had questions to confirm our understanding. Very professional but personable at same time. Thanks!
NW Legacy made updating my will and trust easy and (relatively) painless. They anticipated nearly all of my questions and brought up issues I hadn't thought of. I'm comfortable that my son will be as well cared for in the future as possible.
NW Legacy Law's personable and efficient team made it easy to get my estate plan set up, even under a tight time constraint. I'd highly recommend them for all of your estate planning needs.
